  1. We use OxyClean in our carpet scrubber all the time.It does a good job and makes our house smell fresh and clean.

Hope this works for you too.  :)

  2. For removing stains of the general nature, I like to pretreat them with a mixture of Simple Green & water.  About 2/3 water and 1/3 Simple Green.  Scrub it in and let it sit awhile, maybe 1/2 hour.  Then you can shampoo with the Simple Green diluted to the recommended amount on the bottle for cleaning carpets.

If it's pet stains or stains of "that" nature, I prefer to use Odoban.  It's a deoderizing cleaner that uses enzymes to do the dirty work.

Both are available at Wal-Mart and Sam's Clubs, both are non-toxic and smell good!  The Odoban is a little overpowering at full concentration........

  3. ~~To give you an honest answer on the odor remover, gotta know the source of odor. To completely get rid of the stain, take 3 parts hydrogen peroxide to 3 drops of liquid dishsoap and mix. Sponge this into the stain until saturated. Leave on one hour. Blot up, then rinse with clear water. Stain disappears like magic. (Test an inconspicuous spot on your carpet first to be sure it is colorfast), most carpet is. Any odor can easily be removed with Natures Miracle (available at any large pet store). The odor you  have may be removeable with something around the house, that's why it's better to know.~~

  4. Rent a Rug Doctor once or twice a year, they work great.
