there are a few things you can do ..exercise the dog more ...and bath him ..we had dogs and not one of them smelt ..give them more attention

I'm not sure if they have it in the UK, but Arm and Hammer makes a really good product just for this. It comes in a blue and yellow box. You sprinkle it on your carpet, and leave it for about 10 minutes. It removes all pet odors and helps remove pet hair when you vacuum. It really works!
