What programming language is best to learn?

I am currently learning Java at University... this is the main programming language being taught there at the moment.

What I want to know is, to get a good successful programmer/software engineer job... should I learn any other language(s)?

If so... what language(s) should I mainly focus on?

Not interested in LAMP (web design side) at the moment!).

Thinking of the Microsoft side... but there are so many to choose from!

Thanks!

  2. Hi, JF

most designers and programmers  will see them programming languages are the best. c++ is strong , java is strong

    but, in my opinion :

Java is strong , easy , flexible  and near to our language

it distributed in web applications because it very light

  3. I would say phpbb as you can make millionaire websites like myspace and facebook with that. Its easy to learn if you put your mind to it as well.

  4. It depends on what you need.

For Windows and Console applications, go with C#.

For games and networking, probably C/C++ is the best choice.

Java is similar to C#, and if you learn Java, you'll understand C# very quickly.

  5. Java seems to be very popular in recent years. My personal favorite is Perl, it is quite versatile.

A warning about specializing in Microsoft products, you will pay for training and new software every time their marketing people decide it is time to stir things up. I got burned when they dropped QuickBASIC in favor of VisualBASIC which had no Macintosh version while I was programming for both PC and Mac platforms.

For the long term, in general you are better off learning open source tools because the community of users has a lot more control.

  6. if u want to clear your concepts you need to learn C++

  7. c is the biggest, so if you want to be profesional in programming, i think thats one that you would need
