  1. true or false:
the initial thrust of the spaceshuttle to leave the confines of the earth is what gets the shuttle to its orbit. However, once there, no more thrusters are used. It travels at approximately 18,000 miles per hour. Its tendency is to go straight, but the earth's gravity pulls (acts) on it. It "falls" to earth as it also goes forward at the same rate as the curvature of the earth, so it stays in a constant orbit. The speed needed to maintain this orbit is determined by the height of that desired orbit.
