What protection do we have in the case of an EMP attack?

I was listening to 990 with the "Intelligent Conservative Talk" last night and Micheal Savage was talking to...somebody...who said we haven't upgraded our protections in the case of an EMP attack since the cold war when we figured we wouldn't have to deal with a threat like that for a while.   1. every re bar reinforced concrete building will be fine. your hard drives will be fine. your computer, will probably be fine. its all bullshit. anything surrounded in a metal mesh of some sort, is protected from electromagnetic pulses by the effect known as a "Faraday cage" everything nowadays is pretty much a Faraday cage... all important buildings will be safe, etc.
