  1. Carefresh bedding is really good but quite expensive. It lasts longer than wood shavings and you don't have to worry about any respiratory aggravations as with pine and cedar. Lots and lots of toilet roll tubes for chewing and hiding in. Get a big tank/aquarium (with a lid, gerbils jump!) for them to live in so they can burrow around. Food, any gerbil/hamster mix would do, but try and keep the number of sunflower seeds low. They absolutely love them, but they are very high in fat so not good in large quantities!

    Good luck!

  2. theres this brand of food called nutriphase, and my hamster and my friends hamster i am hamster sitting loves it,and its supposed to be really healthy. i would get kaytee aspen, and look on petsmart.com for a cage that you like.

    good luck and have fun!!

  3. Congraulations, are you getting a gerbil?!?!?

    Cage- http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

Bedding- Carefresh is the best brand. http://www.petsmart.com/search/index.jsp...

Food- Nutriphase is a great food. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js...

Also, include Chinchilla *SAND* (NOT dust) in the cage for her to roll around in.

You may also want to have an empty toilet paper roll for her to play with.

Put bits of toilet paper and/or cotton balls in the cage, too.

The cage above comes with a water bottle and a food dish as well as a wheel, so you won't need to get those seperately.

    Best of luck!!! ♥

  4. Actually, you want to get 2 gerbils.  Make sure you get them from the same pet store.  It is very important that you get 2 gerbils because if you only get one, he/she will be very stressed and may never get used to you.

  5. For a cage, just find one that comes w/ all the accessories and  more than one level. Like a crittertrail cage. They come with the water bottle, wheel, dens, etc.

For litter, definitely use Carefresh. Wood shavings are not good for them. For food, buy one that has mostly if not all pellets. You dont want the gerbil to eat too much seeds because they are very high in fat. I would try to get the gerbil(s) eating all pellet, and give seeds occasionally as a treat.

Also I highly recommend you buy wood chews or other chew toys for the gerbil, and switch them out periodically so that they don't get bored and chew on the cage.

They also make vitamins for their water, but I have heard alot that this doesn't get absorbed, so as long as you're feeding a nutritious diet, you don't really need them.

Oh, and make sure you give fresh fruits and veggies occasionally also. Here's a list of which ones are good for them: carrots, broccoli, dandelion greens, apples, and berries. Avoid raw kidney beans, raw potato, onion, potato leaves, or rhubarb leaves. Don't feed too much, or the extra water from the veggies will give them diarrhea.

(and of course, always have clean water.)

    Good luck!

  6. You could buy your Gerbil some toys as well. There are lots of toys for Gerbils such as a gerbil wheel, a swing... even a playground!

  7. there is a brand of treat called yogeys or sompthing but hampsters seem to really like them so i don't see y a gerbil shoulden't.

  8. one thing i can tell you NOT to buy for them is cedar chips... it causes respiratory distress in rodents so make sure not to use that as bedding!!!! thats how my sister lost her pet hamster :(

  9. you wanna be able to give it a bigger cage than a hamster  becuz sometimes they cant fit and move were they want

if your looking 4 a store go to petco petsmart petmart & any local petstore
