Moving from NZ to Melbourne in the next couple of weeks, found a flat in Sunbury. Is this a nice place to live? What public transport is there from Sunbury to Melbourne International?

  2. Sunbury is a nice outer suburb with a slightly rural country bumpkin feel. It is quite laidback, nice (and a little bit boring??). It is quite far out of main Melbourne but there is a train so it should be cool while you start out.

    Good luck in Melbourne

EDIT: I just googled the bus service for you and apparently you can get bus 479 from the airport to Sunbury. That would be cheaper than taxi if cash is an issue. Otherwise just grab a taxi.

  3. yes, sunbury is nice, a small but growing town very close to melbourne and melbourne airport. btw, sunbury is the birthplace of the ashes.

the only public transport from sunbury to tullamarine airport is a bus service. i do hope you a referring to tullamarine airport, because laverton airport is a very long way from sunbury, and no direct public transport service between the two exists.

  4. Sunbury is not far from the airport(just over the back fence) so a taxi would be fastest(15/20 min)but there will be a bus af some-kind to get there.

i was there for a week about a year ago seamed like a nice place it has train good shops pubs

  5. There are "airport transfer" buses that run from the airport to Sunbury train station.  Either that or you can catch a taxi or arrange one of the limo services to pick you up.

I suppose it really depends on how much luggage you will have.  The airport transfer usually only allows one piece of luggage per person.  So if there's a couple of you travelling with some serious luggage, you may find a taxi (station wagon or maxi-taxi) the better option.

Personally, I use the limo services.  They cost around the same as a taxi, and are much nicer.  Either way, it's about a 20-minute trip by car (longer on the shuttle service).

As for Sunbury, I can't comment.  I live in the south-east (St Kilda).  Sunbury's okay... if you like living "out of town".
