What purpose do ants serve in ecology

I always wonder if those little guys do anything useful for the environment. They fascinate me.

You should check out some youtube vids on them, they  know more skills in team work than the majority of us do, also show us that humans are very weak creatures as some ants can lift things many times their own weight. I dont know if I can really give you a correct answer, but everything contributes to everything. The food chain, the circle of life blah blah blah :P you get the idea, Wish I could help you more.   2. Without ants the Earth would lose one of its most integrated and useful life forms. The planet would be significantly altered. Many natural habitats would go extinct, including many of the plant and animal species living today.
