What qualification do I need to teach english as an additional language?

I am currently working in a secondary school assistanting a polish child settle in. I have enjoyed helping her to learn english and have also picked up quite a lot of spoken polish. Im interested in furthering my career in this direction. Has anyone got any advice to help me?

  1. Two of the requirements are ones that I would assume you already have which is a bachelor's degree from a credible teacher/education program. Teaching English as a second language requires you to be certified. Luckily, this can be done at most community colleges saving you both money and time. The certificate program can take anywhere from one to two years to complete. You can look up local community colleges in your area offering the program through any college navigation site of your choice. Good luck! And I hope it's fulfilling work for you.


  2. MOst college's or universities offer an ESL endorsement that is 9 credit hours. That will allow you to work in that area.
