Question:

What qualifications do I need to become an accredited childminder?

I am looking to become a registered childminder, but I would also like to become accredited. The childminders I know all have a NVQ3 in childcare, but I have helped my friend with hers and it just seems so basic. I have completed year 1 of a 3 year teaching degree, which included a module about the foundation stage and would feel like I'm going backwards if I now went on to do an NVQ3. Anyone know anything more about this.

  2. if this is what you need you will have to complete the training or speak to your course tutor see what she says also you will need to apply for a criminal record bureau check crb to work with children

  3. may train for masteral then pass the board exam

  4. Hi,

I will be accredited chilmdinder as from this September.

To become accredited in my area I had to join a Childminding Network and it was also a stipulation that I had to be NVQ 3 qualified.  I would imagine that they would take your qualification into consideration.  If you contact the National Childminding Assocation they should be able to give you more information and contact numbers.

  5. Contact your local Social Services Office.  I assume they still do the inspection and approve childminders.  If they've passed this on to some other body, they will be able to tell you who you should speak to.

  6. You need to apply to the McCann school of Training

  7. As far as I am aware there are no 'entry requirements' for this role as such - you just have to be vetted and registered by your Local Authority (council).  Contact them for more information.

  8. I'm pretty sure you don't have to have qualifications, but you do need to go on an introductory course,  and you have to do peadiatric first aid training course, and have a CRB check.

You will get an application pack on this course (training course), and they will give you all the help and information you could possibly need and tell you how to fill in all the forms required to become registered. I think they check out your home to see of its safe, etc.

Have a look at some local colledges websites, i'm not sure what the course is called, so just put 'childminding course'.

If you have any experience or training relevant to childcare, that helps!
