I am going to be a freshman in high school this year and have had an interest in genetics for quite sometime. To have the best opportunity, how many degrees do you have to have?

  1. High school, just take science classes and get good grades. Your goal isn't necessarily an ivy league, but it is a school with a very powerful research program, usually a school with State or University of in their name. Get into biological research your freshman year, and work your butt off to get published. Study biology, microbiology, biochemistry (if you are interested in the molecular genomics field) or a similar science field, and get a good GRE score. After that, get into a graduate program and get your PhD.
