What qualifications do you need/ how do you become a farrier?

In Great Britain you get a job as an apprentice, working for an established farrier and then you train for about four years, including spending weekends away on training courses and some day release to college.

It is very hard work and most farriers don't work past the age of about 45 because of the damage to their backs.  You can make very good money though.

I have a friend who is a farrier.  He lives near the IA/IL border and went to a school near Denver, CO for it.  I believe it was a one year course. :-)
