  1. A second or third language will help A LOT, go to major in a different language first, and then become a minor in political science. That will allow you to be a representative or translator for your country in other countries, and also makes you close to six figures a year.

  2. I was an International Relations major and I can tell you one of the best ways to get into these kinds of jobs is to get a degree in International Relations or Political Science. Besides your qualifications, you will need to speak multiple languages but that is usually not enough either if you want to be an ambassador. You will have to be very patient and use your academic program to get to know high-ranking people who can help you achieve your goal in the future. Without connections, it is unlikely that you could become a diplomat since there are so many people wanting to get into those good places. Most of my classmates in college thought they would become diplomats after getting their degree. Well, I can tell you out of like 300-400 people, 4 or 5 got very good job offers related to this field. I'm not saying it is impossible but you need to be very active and make connections, plus you have to look for summer internships at consulates, for instance.  I wish you good luck!

Also, do a research on what being a diplomat means because some people (I'm not saying you are like that) do not entirely know what a diplomat does and they think it is just a "cool" job for a lot of money.  Not really! Traveling all the time and having very busy working hours can be tough. Not everybody is able to handle it.

  3. well, you need to go with a degree in Political Science with most credits in International Relations (a political science subfield). It is also preferable that you speak a foreign language, or maybe even several foreign languages although not mandatory. Not all ambassadors speak foreign language but considering the fact that you are not going to be an ambassador from the beginning, foreign language is going to be very important for you to go up.
