Hello, my friend is doing a project for her co-op. She's been taking co-op for auto mechanics in hopes to teach in to high school (secondary school) in the future. We've looked at several websites and have been told some information, but we'd like some verification. She'd like to teach it in Ontario, Canada. We were told you need college and five years experience in a garage.

Could anyone tell me the exact qualifications she would need to become a teacher for high school automacanics? (schooling, experience, teacher's college...?)

Thank you so much. It is greatly appreciated.

P.S. She has to hand this project to her auto teacher in less than an hour.

  1. What you heard is pretty much correct.  High Schools are bound by certain rules and licensure requirements.  Now, if she was willing to teach at a Junior College (Community College, 2 year programs), then the amount of "college" to teach may be reduced.  I have one acquaintance that was allowed to teach Automotive at a CC based on his shop experience (5 years+) and only a two year Associates Degree.

I can't help you on the part about teaching in French, nor the fact that it appears this missed the deadline you needed the information.  (Don't know why you extended the time if you needed the information immediately!)
