What qualifications does a special needs teacher have to have?

I read you need a degree in education, a PGCE, then special training. Is there anything else?

I guess they must be patient, caring, respnosible people.

other than those, u must have patient! thats the most important than the certs n all! coz although u have higher education in university or in college but dont have any patient to teach the "specials", then byebye!

remember, everything is from ur heart n not totally in ur education!

I live in VA....and special ed teachers here must have a degree in special edducation and have endorsements either in LD, ED , MR....or multiple disabilitites.......and of course you must pass the PRaxis!

And I do not like the comment from the person said...."teach the "specials""....what does THAT mean???
