A guy told me a person is an in-fighter based on how long their fore-arm is, meaning a person with a long forearm can't be an in-fighter, i understand this concept being a person with long arms can't be an in-fighter. Is that true? and where is the cutt-off length for forearms....my forearm is 12 in. long, I would like to be an in-fighter but if my body type won't allow it the n i guess i'll be an orthodox out-fighter.

can anyone help??

  1. Well im sorry to tell you but that guy is full of B.S and knows nothing at all.

Listen haveing long forearms or not it doesn't matter the word you are looking for is REACH meaning if you have long arms or not,

a fighter with long arms has an advantage right at the start, meaning they can fight from the outside using there jab keeping there opponent at bay.

What determines someone at Qualifying to be a good INSIDE fighter is punching at a short range and setting up combos like an unppercut, right hook then left.

Your friend must be confused because its true someone with a long "Range" doesnt nessicarely Have to fight on the inside cause they can just fight tall

But that doesnt mean anything fighting on the inside is if you have skill, you know being able to throw a punch from 6 inches and causing damage.

At your height and weight you have an advantage, you can have more choices

meaning if you start a career at welter-weight(147)

and have succes you can then move up in weight

Because you have a tall frame to fill out.

  2. Riddick Bowe had long arms and well over 6 feet tall and was still a great in fighter.  Arm length doesn't have a thing to do with it, the guy who told you that is wrong, what he told you is not true.  It doesn't have much to do with body type, if you have two arms attached to a torso, you can work inside.  Short, accurate uppercuts, compact hooks and good body shots are good fundamentals that all effective boxers master, regardless if they are tall and lanky or short and heavy.

  3. The length of your forearm? I don't think that a fighter's forearm determines his choice to fight in close range vs. long range. If you are fighting someone with very long reach, a better game plan would be to get inside his reach but, if you're fighting someone with an 8" shorter reach than you I'd try to keep him outside.Learning to fight on the inside does come in handy but it's brutal.I think it's good to do both inside and outside fighting just in case.

  4. Many tall fighters are in fighterss, Like lance whitaker he is 6'8 and has a long reach but he is a in fighter. But that doesnt mean that people with long reach should be in fighters. If you have reach be a out fighter and if you dunt be a in fighter

  5. the question should be how long is the length of your arm from your shoulder till you hand in a closed fist. If you have a long arm span than fighting on the outside will come more naturally to you as a fighter b/c someone with long arms will get jammed up and find it more difficult to punch when they are close to their opponent. Talk to a trainer and work with him and then you can decide what works best for you. Use what your body type is best for, that is the science of boxing.
