What qualities must a male possess to become a man?

What defines masculinity? What makes a person a man rather than a boy?

Strong, providing, protective,caring and loving personality (treat women with love and respect).  Metrosexual.

I can answer that in one word: puberty.

But some men are more "manly" than others, depends what u really mean by "man"

I could similarly ask:

"What qualities must a female posess to become a woman- What defines femininity/womanhood.  What makes a person a woman instead of a girl?"

But you might rightly be a bit offended by it.

Girls are accepted as women without pre-condition.

Boys must be allowed to consider themselves as men without pre-condition.

I know many women (and some men) want to write the manual on what defines a man, but you can't, anymore than we can determine your womanhood.
