long story short, I work with spirit and my main contact is through their energies and hearing them talk. In past after my nana passed away I would often sense the smell of her talcum powder she wore, and i always knew if she was around me.But that was ever the only sense of smell I had with the any spirit.

Lately, in the last two days, theres the scent of geranium around me, its really strong. I dotn wear anything with geranium in it ( i actually really dont like the smell too much to be honest) and its almost overpowering. Im lost as i have tried to ask spirit and they go quiet on me when I ask about it.

Does anyone know what the symbol of a geranium is or general meanings of the flower or scent? Or what the medicinal purposes of geranium essential oil is? It may help to give me some insight.

  1. I don't know about spiritual or medical uses, but I have a different insight:

Honeybees produce a scent that many of us refer to as a "come-hither" scent.  It smells strongly of geraniums.  Bees will point their tails up and away from the hive, fan their wings, and release this scent.  It allows other bees to find their way to the hive if they are lost, particularly if it is a new hive.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Geranium         : stupidity, folly

    Geranium, rose :  preference

    Geranium, scarlet :  consolation

  3. geraniums are protection and friendship.

Also the geranium is a favorite among a lot of older persons, no offense to anyone older than me, but it is true.  A lot of women born between the 1900's and the 1950's have a specific love of the geranium, don't ask me why.  But it is simular to Queens loving the rose so much (I personally think the rose smells too sweet and is not of my liking)

Perhaps your granny (or whatever spitit it is) liked geraniums so much that it has become her personal scent.

A lot of Saints in the Catholic Faith have been recorded as presenting themselves with the smell of Roses when they are present.  It generally is an easy thing to recognize that they are at peace and happy and not defied.  If your granmas scent changes though, pay close attention and do what you need to do to put her at rest.

I've also heard in rumor that Geraniums are a symbol of Christianity.  Maybe not Christ persay, but a comforting side of Christians.  I have no proof on this other than what I have picked up throughout the years.

  4. According to the 2008 Old Farmer's Almanac, geraniums represent true friendship. Also, rose geranium oil is sometimes used in love spells.

Medicinally, it's used as an astringent and cleanser, and to speed healing. In ayurvedic medicine it is used to balance vata.

  5. My grandmother years ago when I was a child told me that red geraniums were a protection flower.  She planted them all around her house like a boundary.  They were suppose to ward off evil and protect the property.  That is all I can remember from her about them.  I use them in that manner.  If your grandmother was like mine and thought of them that way... and you are sure they are connected to her perhaps she is putting up some kind of barrier between you and something bad or that you need protection?
