Question:

What quality level is the blu-ray drive in the PS3?

I just purchased a 42" 1080P LCD TV for my bedroom and am considering blu-ray players. Sony's entry level player (which has been getting mixed reviews) retails for around $379.00. For another 20 bucks I can get the 40G PS3. Does anyone know any of the differences between the quality of the drives on these two? Sony's next blu-ray player is up around 500-600 dollars. This is comparable to the price of the 80G PS3 which I use in my living room. Any suggestions?

  1. I agree....hello ....it's a PS3!!!!

  2. The PS3 is probably the best bet, since it can be updated via firmware updates.  Not all standalone players have that capability.  You might also want to wait for the rumored 120/160gb, if you can spare a few months.  That could possibly have the improved Bluray diode that Sony and some other company just created.  It would probably all but eliminate the 2% failure rate on the PS3s (the most common failure is the disc drive failing).

  3. Get the PS3 , same overall quality,, ,

  4. many die-hard Blu-Ray fans buy PS3 as thier Blu-Ray player even if they don't want to use it for gaming, it is the best quality Blu-Ray player for the price.
