  1. Well it would be equivalent to two power stations being shut down, because thats how much Earth Hour saved. And energy can't be created or destroyed. So the candles contributed to 2 power stations being turned on!. And that's not counting the amount of CO2 emitted by a person while blowing them out!

  2. Standard white candles do give off small amounts of Co2, the news report I saw, about Earth hour, said we should buy bee's wax candles as they give off no Co2.

  3. It's the hot air eminating from all these greenies that worries me the most! Can we get a break from them for an hour now and again?

  4. A lot less than the carbon not emitted due to electrical power savings, due the inefficiencies of power generation, tranmission, and in the light itself.

The net energy of the candle (particularly compared to the total number of lights on in an average house at night) is less as well.

  5. Ha! Ha!

Good one - it was a bit like LIVE EARTH GIG - rock stars turning up in private jets then driven to the stage in HUMMERS.

  6. This sounds like a fine area for you to focus on.  It sounds important enough for you to devote your entire life to finding the answer.  Actually somewhat more important, but I try to be nice.

  7. I didn't light it.

  8. Only the ones that were lit with matches and propane.

  9. Obviously there are no records of that because scientists aren't able to be at everyone's house to observe their candle flame output.

Anyway, a candle doesn't contain greenhouse gases and even if they did they would contribute less mass tonnage than the electricity that would have been used.
