  1. Beyond sticking to what is public, investor relations people can give you more detail around how their business works, more of an explanation of what they have previously said, and can help you somewhat on your assumptions if you are building a model.

    They can't though, give you more detail when it comes to numbers (generally).


  2. If you are considering investing in a company, your first question should be for a prospectus.  Your other questions may develop from there.  Be sure to check other credible sources, if you are impressed with a company.

    Keep in mind a prospectus will not tell you everything, and investor relations may gloss over the truth.

  3. You can ask anything you want. The investor relations person will give you all the answers that he or she is allowed to give you, which is basically any information that is public.
