Question:

What questions do you wish were/were not in the baby record book you used?

I already posted one question regarding a baby record book-- where I found you were all very helpful! For those who didn't see it, my question was what I should do regarding a baby book.

I did decide to make my own baby book since I'd never find one tailored to my situation. I've got two weeks to go until my little sweetheart is here-- and I'm scrambling to finish my book so I can begin to fill it in!

I'm finding it really hard to think of things I should record in there. I know the obvious things I'll want to remember-- first time I see her smile, things like that--- but I'm hoping you could give me some suggestions.

What things are you happy you recorded in your child's baby book, and what things could you have done without? Was there anything you didn't record that you wish you did?

Thanks so much!

  1. I would do it in the 3rd person.  I purchased baby books for my kids from the store but I kinda wish I would have made my own ( I made my own scrapbooks and have kept up with them since my 21 month old was born)   Some of the things that I could have done without are

    - How much a house costs, since it varies a great deal depending on the area and how big the house is.

    - Famous political leaders

    - How much a computer costs, as that varies too

    - The spot to put their Social Security number, I didnt write it in on either because if somehow I lose this book, anyone could get her social security number and use it.

Some things I wished were in it are

    - First time they used the potty since my daughter started 2 months ago and I had to write in a spot to put the date.  I think that is a very big milestone in a childs life.

    - There are spots to put new foods they like at each month but not a spot to put foods they didn't like and I wish they had that.

    - First time they said their ABC's by theirself.

    - First time they counted to 10 by theirself.

    - First time they held their own bottle.

    - First time they fed theirself off of a spoon/fork

    - First time they went to the dentist.

    - First bath in an actual bath tub and not a baby bath.

    - First kisses

    - First time they say I love you, my heart absolutely melted the first time my daughter said it back to me and it still does everytime she says it.

    - Favorite TV character as a child

    - First time they rode a bike.

    - First trip to the playground

    - First time they spend the night away from home

I could list them forever but that should give you an idea of a few things.

  2. I hated how they made like two pages for baptism and world leaders. In some house holds people arent religious or even care about politics.

  3. I've seen a lot of good ones on here and one that i would like is the first time they gave a kiss. My son is one and he just started giving kisses and its the sweetest thing in the world!

  4. first time he held eye contact

first time he slept through the night

    "" discovered his feet

"" hit his toys on purpose

    ""reached for a toy

    "" reached for me

  5. My son's book is wrote out like he is telling the story.

For every month it ask for measurements, sleep routines, new foods he liked, things he discovered, what milestones he's reached and new friends he has made.

In other parts there's sections for first car ride, bath, trip out with mommy and daddy, zoo, holidays, first birthday to the 5 I believe.

I record everything, rolling over on side, smile, laugh, push up all of it : ]

  6. We didn't like a part about "Current world leaders" and stuff like that. So for the "world around me" part, I cut out pictures from magazines of products we use for her and made a collage on that page. So there is a collage of pictures like Pampers Swaddlers, a diaper genie, desitin's ad, etc. In 50 years that stuff will be very different - think back to what your grandparents used. I think it will be neat to look back on it someday! Its such central stuff in our lives now.
