Question:

What questions should I ask a potential renter's employer to qualify him to rent from me?

Obviously, I'll ask to verify his monthly gross income so I can compare it to the rent he'll be paying me. And I'll probably also verify how long he's been there.

Am I missing anything?

  1. why can't you just look at the last pay stub?

  2. Look up the employer in the phone book and call them that way, asking only for Human Resources.

Lots of people have landlords call their friends up for references and verifications.

You can also ask if the position is a permanent one.

  3. It really depends on the employer, a large corporation with a large human resources department do not plan to get much at all, and you may even have to pay for basic info

a mom and pop and you more likely to get more info

  4. Due to privacy concerns (and lawsuit fears), employers might not be willing to release any information on their employees without written consent from said employee.  About all you can ask for, even with consent, is salary and period of employment.  You should also ask the prospective renter for his/her last two residences and reason for moving, then check it out.
