Question:

What questions should I ask a preschool teacher in an interview for a school paper?

The woman I am interviewing is my godmother and was also my preschool teacher. So I think I could ask her some questions I wouldn't ask other people, but I just need more suggestions on what to ask. Obviously the question should have to do with what her job is like blah blah. Any suggestions are appreciated greatly.

Thank you,

Marie

  1. One item to ask her about would be if she beleives preshcools and the staff are given what they need to work with special needs children.  ... I think this might bring some thoughtful insight because my son was recently in preschool (just entered kindergarten this last fall) and his preschools were required to take Autism and Spectrum Disorder children, with what appeared to be little actual help or direction in how to work with those children to help 'mainstream' them.  I have no quarrel with them being in the class with other children without such challenges.  But it seems to me that some measure should be taken to ensure that those children are given what they need.  ... I will say that I was struck by how easily and completely those young children accepted the autistic, spectrum disorder and other special needs children.  My son would say, "That's just how 'Joey' is.  Sometimes he joins us and sometimes he doesn't. Sometimes he just has to cry or something because he needs to.  It's fine.  I don't know why Mommies and Daddies ask."

You also might ask her how she came to choose to be a preschool teacher and what someone should expect in being a preschool teacher that might not occur to them as being part of the job.  ... Ask her for her insight on what she considers to be the greatest challenges and greatest joys in teaching preschool.  ...  Ask her if her job has gotten easier or more difficult over the years and why.  ...  Ask her what she would like to say to/tell parents that maybe she doesn't. ...  Does she think parents are doing a better or worse job in parenting young children now over when she first started teaching preschool and why.

Good luck!  Have fun with your interview.  It certainly helps to know the person you are interviewing!
