You are on a committee that must make recommendations about how your city or town should handle its solid waste disposal problem. Make a list of the questions you would want to have answered before you make your recommendations.

  1. 1: what is the composition of our solid waste now?

    2: Are we doing anything to reduce its quantity?

    3: how much of our solid waste is being recycled?

    4: How much recyclable material is in our garbage stream.

    5: If biological (including food) waste were removed from the stream, how frequently would we need to do collection of non-biological materials

    6: if biological waste were eliminated, would it be feasible to eliminate crushing of garbage to allow post collection sorting of things that can be recycled?

    7: Can we persuade people to give preference in purchasing to things that can be mostly recycled?

    8: Can we   put the cost of landfill on those who contribute to it rather than on the general taxpayer?

    2. How much does he/she charge?

    3. Where do they dispose of the solid waste?

    4. How often do they pick-up?

    5. Will the workers be city emplyees or contracted to pick up?

    6. Will they expect trash to be sorted by paper, trash, Aluminum and Glass?

    7. Will they pick up large items, such as old T.V.'s or washing machines, if scheduled for once or twice a year.
