  1. It never amazes me how US citizens demand and expect to be "safe" inside our borders - then question the very ones who ensure it is done.  A few naked pictures from GITMO - the equivalent of a Frat house hazing ritual and some get their panties in a wad.  If standing a terrorist on a stump and pretending to connect their ba*** to a battery will save Americans lives all I can say is red is positive, black is negative.

  2. The Supreme Court has ruled that Guantánamo isn't a part of the USA -- that it's still a part of Cuba, but that the US has control of it (FYI, the Cuban government considers the U.S. presence in Guantánamo to be illegal). And by that US Supreme Court ruling, officially, the people being held prisoner without charge in Guantánamo are not being held in the USA and, therefore, USA laws don't apply. Also, the prisoners there have been ruled "enemy combatants" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enemy_comba... a term that originated in WWII, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_P... That means they don't have the same rights as POWs.

So, in short, there are no "remedies."

As the USA keeps saying that the Geneva Conventions don't apply to its dealings with "enemy combatants" and even prisoners in Iraq, it's only a matter of time before a foreign government does the same with USA troops and citizens and prisoners. And because of Guantánamo and the horrific, insulting photos and activities at Abu Ghraib, it will be very difficult for the USA to assume any moral high ground or claim any rights for its citizens in such an event.
