  1. It depends on the type of license you are seeking

If you want a private license (small, single engine planes)

you just need to pay for lessons at a local training center

Many times the airport in your city will have info on these programs..

After you have so many hours of flight time you will need to fly solo.

In order to do this you need an aviation medical exam (class 1)

    be 17 years old

a commercial pilot license builds on the private license

you just need several hours of instruction flying multi-engine planes.

If you are trying to get a job with a major airline you will need the commercial license.

    over 500 hours flying time

    and near perfect vision

also the medical exams go up

the higher the license the more thorough the exam

Be prepard to spend A LOT of many training for this career.

pilot lessons can cost $150 per hour plus 30-90 to pay the instructor

The best training available for pilots is the military

I would not recommend a career in aviation as it is falling steadily and job prospects are not good for anyone in the field

However, If this is your passion I wish you all the luck in the world..

P.S. I just read your additional details. There is only 2 major airports in India. It is better to train in the U.S. everybody wants U.S. trained pilots

  2. I'll deal with what I recommend (in the U.S.)

    * Find a CFI. Ask him/her what they think. Listen, carefully.

    * Get your CFI to sign you up for a six month free membership to AOPA.org.

    * Get your medical exam out of the way. For student pilot, you have to be 16 years old to get this. Your medical serves as your student pilot certificate.

*Get your books - written study guide, etc. Your CFI will tell you what to get here. Start reading

    * Start training. I recommend scheduling 3 times a week to fly, and try to fly at least twice.

    * Start studying. You can study for your written online at www.sportys.com/faatest. It's free, and it's got the actual questions. You can even take a practice test timed, like the real thing.

    * Pass your Pre-Solo Oral and written - see your CFI for explanation.

    * Complete your Training and Pass your written exam

    * Pass your check ride.

    You're a pilot - congrats
