The new kind of shower mixing controls work to maintain the set  water temperature going to the shower. When you choose a water temperature for the shower they will lower the flow of hot or cold incoming water to keep at that temperature setting.

Hot and cold streams are the controlled variables. Desired shower temperature is the control setting. Actual shower temperature is the measured variable.  Error is the difference between the desired shower temperature and the actual shower temperature.

Elevator.  A control system controls the whole thing.  How quickly it accelerates and decelerates.  Where it stops (based on input from people requesting the elevator).  When the doors open and close.  

Obviously the control system must be stable, otherwise people would be killed.
