  1. Well, since diabetics aren't supposed to drink, suggesting something for him to drink feels like suggesting which brand of poison to serve him.

Most drinks made with mixes are out of the question -- the mixes have mucho sugar. Last thing on earth he needs!

Sparkling water with a wedge of lime looks like a drink, and is very good to drink - for everyone, not just diabetics.

  2. He can drink diet coke or diet ginger ale. He can also have a beer or wine as as long as he has carefully monitored his blood sugar and he plans to move around (dance).

  3. Whiskey would be ok.

  4. Bloody Mary?

  5. Water or diet sodas, seriously. Mixed drinks are often high in sugar, and alcohol consumption can lead to hypoglycemia.  I'll do a gin & tonic - one -  but only if it's made with diet tonic and I've eaten recently.

  6. If he's on an insulin pump he should talk to  his diabetes educator about how to change  his settings.  For some reason alcohol effects diabetics differently and his blood sugar will go down.  Please be sure someone has glucogon and other things to bring up his sugar if necessary.  It is hard to tell the difference between someone who is drunk and someone with very low blood sugar.
