  1. I don't mean to be insulting, but nobody who has $50,000 to spend is incapable of looking up an exchange rate. I doubt you will be able to afford those places.

Strand Palace Hotel is a very large, very centrally located hotel that is fairly inexpensive (without being a second floor walk-up or shared bathrooms). You can walk to hundreds of bars and clubs from there.

A club room is a little less nice than a typical Holiday Inn Express. A single room will look like an army barracks with a cot in the corner.

  2. I like the Chesterfield in Mayfair--short walk to Bond St Stn.

Spent a week this past yr at the Waldorf in Aldwych, which is in easy walking distance of Covent Garden, museums, and theatre, and many bus routes have a stop there, so the bus is the easiest mode of public transport.

The Waldorf is now owned by Hilton.  Several other Hilton properties to consider are the Trafalgar and the Green Park.

Stayed a number of times at the Park Lane Hotel but can't vouch for it at present--good location, though, across from Green Park.

  3. Good 4* hotels I have used are the Washington Mayfair, Radisson Edwardian Leicester Square, and Radisson Edwardian Marlborough. I would recommend them all (just checked out of the Washington this morning - food good, service excellent and putting mistakes right even better! After all,we're all human).

As for the exchange, as a rough rule I use £1 = $2, so you would have about £25,000, which is enough to stop at a 5* like the Radisson Mayfair or the Lanesborough (with butler service!).

Hope the helps. Good luck and enjoy
