  1. Carbohydrates are the best source of energy. whether you eat it for your energy or feed it to microbes to produce ethanol. Sugars are faster at delivering energy, but exhaust quickly and therefore are not ideal. Beverage alcohols are produced with sugars. Today, competition between food & fuel ethanol is a hot topic, but very very soon we may move to making fuel ethanol from cellulose, stringy & woody stuff that has no food value. All of this stuff is made from the same basic structures and from simple to complex are - base sugars(glucose), complex sugars(fructose), carbohydrates, starches, cellulose, and ligno-cellulose. All of these are made by plants through photosynthesis, and really petroleum is originally from this same process. Ethanol will be a great fuel in the future, once we stop making it out of food, but for now we still need it.

High Carbohydrate foods are grain based foods, like corn, wheat, rice, oats, barley, and many other grains. Most energy efficient use is to eat it and ride a bicycle, but it can be fermented into ethanol to run a combustion engine too. Good luck!

    PS- Environment or Health Question?

  2. Do mean energy like if you eat it it will give you energy or like bio-fuel?

For food: a mix of carbs and protein like rice and beans gives a longer lasting more mild source of energy. For a quick pick me up things like bananas and granola that contain a protein/sugar mix work well.

For bio-fuel the term best is a little open. It depends on where you are in the wrold. Sugarcane I hear is the best, but not practical since it has a limited territory and would have to be shipped. Corn and soy are also used. They would be best in the continental U.S.

  3. Corn is mainly the largest source to use for fuel (ethanol), especially for cars. There are also soy-beans and sugarcane. We also need to think of the waste from dead plants that can be burned to produce energy, or even manure.

Although some experts believe that corn and soybeans cannot solve the energy crisis we are currently in. Food isnt the only thing we can use for fueling our future.

    Hope this answers your question!

  4. Corn is most frequently used for producing biofuel but other crops have also great potential like sugar can.
