im new to this whole thing but so far i realized if you ask questions it subtracts 5 points, if you answer a question you get 2 points. And if the answer gets best answer then you get 10 poinrs, the more points you get the higher you are on the 'leaderboard.' so they're really there just to show how many questions you can answer and who has the highest points.

basically, it just to allow you to do more things on yahoo answers and be more involved in the program or site.
