  3. Yes, famine and religious persecution certainly aren't current!

    Favourable ones might be the fact that it's one of the richest countries in the world, high employment, one of the best qualities of life in the world,  a mild temperate climate (no hurricanes etc), and so on.  The Economist magzine ranked it the best place in the world to live a couple of years ago.

    Less favourable things might be that  the economy is slowing a bit, as part of hte worldwide slowdown in the US, UK etc.   The climate may be mild, but large parts of the year are also quite wet (although not as wet as some of the myths say)!

    Hope this helps!.  Overall, I'd say the favourable factors currently outweigh the unfavourable ones, which is why there's a good deal of immigration to Ireland from countries like Poland or Nigeria.

    Universities

    Push: Multinational Companies moving to Eastern Europe because cheaper labour etc... People are moving for jobs.
