  1. I'd say it's Yahoo's way of making a big game out of learning - their weak attempt to turn a chance to gain knowledge into a big RPG. And their math, by the way, is off - lose 5 points to ask a question, gain only 2 to answer? They shouldn't limit anything based on points/levels, but rather use all that to earn rewards of some kind, like buy a game system or new PC game or some other cool thing with your points. But they only give you access to things through your points that other sites give you access to right away - the points don't mean much other than that.

  2. I'm going to assume that you're talking about the levels on yahoo answers.  It's quite simple really, the more points you have the higher your level.  People with higher levels can ask and answer more questions each day. If you'd like to see how it's broken down click on your number in that box on the top left that shows your name and points.  It will take you to a screen that shows you the point breakdowns and the perks of advancing.  I'm currently working to get up to a level 4

  4. You can know the whole system by clicking the number of points you have achieved (OR) read here as i have just copied it down here for you to read. Hope it should help

To encourage participation and reward great answers, Yahoo! Answers has a system of points and levels. The number of points you get depends on the specific action you take. The points table below summarizes the point values for different actions. While you can't use points to buy or redeem anything, they do allow everyone to recognize how active and helpful you've been. (And they give you another excuse to brag to your friends.)

Levels are another way to keep track of how active you (and others) have been. The more points you accumulate, the higher your level. Yahoo! Answers recognizes your level achievements with our special brand of thank you's!

And finally, as you attain higher levels, you'll also be able to contribute more to Yahoo! Answers - you can ask, answer, vote and rate more frequently.
