  1. I hate it, so many horses get hurt and die.

  2. i think that within every sport there are risks and dangers and many people think that horse racing is cruel to the horses but i think that it is only cruel when the owners or riders are irresponsible.

Before big races like the Grand National the horses will be trained so they meet their maximum fitness and therefore are prepared for the race. Like the person before me I also believe that it is wrong to carry on ifthe horse is hurt or injured but this rarly happens as the riders know that the horse doesn't feel itself and carrying on will only make things worse and in the end these horses are very valuable. Also if a horse/rider does get injured there are vets and ambulances waiting at every fence.

I think that everyone has a right to their opinion. As to every sports there are highs and lows. Today in the grand national the winning rider had had a rough past and had overcome alcoholism and i don't know anyone else who deserved to win more but there also were lows there was one horse fatality and one rider who injured his back and was taken to hospital.

  3. I think the grand national is an immensely cruel race.  All horse racing has its risks, and there is huge collateral damage as a result of the sport.  What happens to the horses that do not make the grade?  Some may go on to good lives as riding ponies, but race horses are highly strung and do not always fit into life outside.  What happens to the horses that are too old and past it.  They do not always live out their lives in comfort.

If they are not slaughtered by the stables many are sold and left neglected in fields, where they are too delicate to withstand the conditions.  Most horses are eventually sold on down the line until they end up as dog meat or on a transporter lorry across Europe to slaughterhouses in Italy etc.

It puzzles me, people would never consider selling-on their dogs, but it appears to be ok for horses. Horse rescue centres have many "retired" race horses i.e. rescued from bad conditions.

I have heard the old argument that horses love to run and jump.  I guess they would also prefer to decide when they ran and  what they jumped over. They don't have a death wish. Of course I know that some trainers and people involved in the sport are concerned about the welfare of the horses, but how many.  Like all sports involving animals, it leaves much to be desired when it comes to the animals true and long-term welfare.

I think people that support horse racing, and particularly the "grand" national are at very best thoughtless idiots!

  4. i hate it, i know many of the horses love it but it's such a big risk. If a horse falls it is still made to carry on unless seriously injured. The national is all about a load of jockeys wanting to win and not really caring about the risk they take with there horses health, and about loads of people trying to make money out of the cruel sport.
