Steven Curtis-Chapman, who is a huge supporter and advocate of adoption of children from China, lost his daughter yesterday as the result of his teenage son backing a car into her and running her over. She was one of three of his adopted children. I just wanted to know your views or feelings on the subject.

  1. the untimely death of any child is tragic...adoption-status is irrelevant.

my heart goes out to the family.

  2. I can't imagine the pain that the family is going through right now. The fact that she was adopted from China in fact deepens the wound that much more as that is the family's "holy discontent." Prayers are definitely needed for them all :(

  3. My heart goes out to Steven and his family.  I just read the articles on-line and I am deeply sadden for their loss.

  4. I found out about this early this morning. How tragic! I am and will continue to keep the family in my prayers.

  5. i want to know if her natural family is going to be informed of her death? or if they don't matter enough to tell that their surrendered child has been accidentally killed.

  6. This is so sad but really doesn't have anything to do with the child being adopted. In Texas a week or so ago a 17 month child was ran over at a garage sale. I feel for the teenager but this is not his fault. I have always taught my children to watch out for others and now they know where their child is at all times just becasue they are 5 doesn't mean they can't get hurt. Just the other day on the news a 7 year old little boy was walking to a friends house and a pack of pit bull dogs killed him. After all this you just need to ask why wasn't the parent walking the child to the friends house.  This is a sad fact child no matter adopted or not need to be watched.

  7. It's well past 5am and this has seriously been keeping me up all night! I work in the Christian music industry, so I... well... I know people. I was just with SCC's two sons in Nashville less than a month ago.  In fact, the rescue helicopter landed my friend's backyard!  I can't even IMAGINE what they are going through right now!!! I've been posting everywhere I can find to ask for prayer for the Chapmans.......

gosh... I'm just shaking. I can't thank God enough that this family has the almighty Comforter with them right now... and that they know Him by name.

  8. That's terriable. I know he's a wonderful christian, and I really hope that they do not resent the teenager forever on what happened. It's a horriable accident and can happen to just about anyone. It is hard to see things behind a car when they are backing up and little kids can get in the way so fast. My heart goes out to them.

  9. Horrible tragedy!!!! My sympathies to the family. The manufacturers should really do something about the blind spots in  the SUV's .  It was another horrible tragedy that did not have to happen. How many more children have to die this way before something is done.

  10. This family has a heart for children. It's a tradgey..and the fact that they were not only outspoken and financially supported families that needed funds to adopt does make this adoption related.

So many of us were inspired by Steven and Mary Beth to take the step to adopt. We went to his concert and it had EVERYTHING to do with adoption. It was through his encouragement we stepped out of our comfort zone to adopt. Now we have 3 more beautiful daughter through adoption. My heart breaks for the family. . . for the son who will always have that guilt hanging over his head.

  11. It's a terrible tragedy and not remotely connected to the fact the child was adopted.

  12. How sad. I feel for the son because this is something he will feel guilty about for the rest of his life.

  13. This is a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to the family.I can't imagine how the teen age son feels.May God be with them in this time of need.Sometimes it is hard to understand why such things happen to little children but God is in control.I am sure their faith will get them through this.I pray for their family, that God will help them with their grief and I pray the son will forgive his self for this.It really was a tragic accident.May God be with them today and always.

  14. oh my goodness...this is the first I've heard of this.  Very sad. Lord please be with this family now. Give them peace.

  15. My husband just called from work and told me about this.  What a horrible tragedy, whether she was adopted or not!  We have a 4 year old son, and we are forever telling him to NEVER go into the garage or on the driveway when someone is either backing in or out, because they can't see him--same for in the parking lots.  I agree with the poster who said the automotive industry needs to do something about the blind spots in vehicles, but there is only so much they can do.

Horrible, horrible tragedy.  My prayers go out to the family.

  16. What happened was so sad, I feel so sorry for there family. I just heard his song Cinderella on the radio this morning and it made me cry and I feel so sorry for there teenage son, he must feel so bad to

  17. It is something that has really taught me a lesson. anything can happen, and as the bible says, we can never be sure that tomorrow will come. My prayers are with him and his family, as your should be too. I cannot even believe how the porr son must be feeling. May the Lord keep them strong.

  18. Well thank you for explaining who he was and what it was all about. I had heard a few stories, but what I was hearing was that his son had murdered his daughter.

By the sounds of it I'd say it was simply a tragedy, no relation to her adoption or abuse in any way.

  19. Gershom, the little girl was adopted from China. I am sure no one knows who her first family is. Most children in China who are adopted internationally were abandoned by their first families.

My heart goes out to the family and I can't begin to imagine the grief her brother is feeling.

  20. Truly tragic.
