I just got my first pair of hockey ice skates. I have an extensive roller hockey background and now am switching over to ice hockey. I am a 200 pound forward who would rather have control over speed. What should i get my skates sharpened to? I have heard 1/2 or 3/8. Any suggestions?

  1. depends on ice conditions but at 200 your gonna want the 1/2 if I'm playing on hard ice at 235 it perfect on softer ice id almost prefer a worn skate

the guy at your hockey store should automatically give you this you shouldn't even have to ask

if your talking bout how much of your blade is touching the ice(forget term damit) the more that touches ice the faster more stable you'll be less and you gain agility and cutting but lose the stability

  2. for you I would go with 1/2 or even a little less. For somebody your weight, you'll get the edge dug in real well even if it's smaller. I need something a little more extreme, and I use a 7/16. I'm 135.

Start with 1/2 and go from there.

  3. if your a fast skater that takes sharp turns and are a winger that loves to skate fast get 3/8 you might want to rub the blade on plastic a few times before using it because it is very sharp

  4. 1/2 inch that is one every one mostly sharpens there skate at, including pros
