  1. In the Navy doctors start at 0-3, lawyers 0-1.

  2. They are normally given a direct commission to 1st Lieutenant until they complete their branch's basic course and then they are advanced to Captain.  The same being true for Chaplains as well.

  3. 2nd lieutenant

  4. As far as doctors, generally they come in as Captains (O-3) but I have seen older, board-certified doctors come in as a Lieutenant Colonel (O-5).

Being board certified is NOT a requirement for O-3. They come into the Army as a captain..even if they are interns or doing their residency.

Unsure on the legal side of things

  5. A fully liscenced and board certified Dr will enter as an O-3. Maybe higher if they have more experience and board certified in a much needed specialty. This also applies to Dentists. Nurses usually enter at O-1.

Lawyers that have a Jurist Doctorate and have passed the Bar, will enter as an O-3 also. If they have not yet passed the Bar exam, will usually enter at O-2 until they pass the Bar in at least one state.

  6. 2nd lieutenant

  7. Second Lieutenant , same as any other officer new.

  8. There are no Marine doctors since we get them from the Navy, but a lawyer coming into the Marines will come in as a 2dLt.
