What rank would someone start as if they have been in the military if they go to work?

Military experience will only help you get the job. It probably will not benefit you at all in terms of "an automatic promotion" when you first join the TDCJ.

Military experience may mean you get a job over someone without it, but thats it.  You start at the bottom with everyone else.
