  1. The basic fact is she got off course and disappeared. They don't know why she was off course or why she crashed, but neither she nor her aircraft were ever found.

  2. Pick up a copy of "The Sound of Wings" by May S. Lovell. It's considered the end all, be all, of Earhart biographies. But Doc gave you the nutshell version. Good on Doc.

  3. Technically no one knows what happened to her because there is no proof that any guess is correct, even people who ' hung out at her starting point'. I cannot tell you exactly what happened to Amelia and for that matter no one can for it has never been discovered what truely happened to her. Just because someone printed a book doesn't make their answer anymore credible and even people who had radio transmitions with her the day whatever happened to her happened they do not know anything that can be labeled as " This is what happened case and point." However what I believe is that Her plane went down close to the shore, however she crashed into the water, far enough out that had she been injured there would have been no way that she and her co-pilot could have made it to shore and most likely drowned. Over the years her plane slowly began to wash up onto shore in bits and pieces  and that may be the " evidence" everyone talks of. However that is just my take on it and is in no way the truth. We will never learn the truth even if we find her plane and body for there is no way we can recreate that night.

Other beleifs are that she was a spy for the US and she decided she no longer wished to continue and so she went off to live her life under an alias. However we will never truely know unless definitive evidence becomes clear:)

    Hope i helped:)

  4. She was seen last Saturday night, working at a 7-11 in Secaucus, New Jersey, with Elvis.

  5. She ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean, she was not near enough to land to have crash landed by the time she ran out of fuel.  None of the stories that have her landing somewhere and surviving have any credibility whatsoever.  Never has a scrap of evidence been found to suggest that she survived but when the math is done it is known that she didn't have enough fuel to make it to the island after she got lost.

It's more romantic to think she survived and as some stories claim she was captured by the Japanese and there is no doubt that it's a much less heroic end to the life a famous aviator to die because she ran out of fuel but that's what happened.

  6. It appears that they (she and Pete Noonan) ran out of fuel and crash landed on an atoll.  Judging from the radio transmissions that were actually picked up in Florida (atmospheric conditions), she was for the most part unharmed but Pete was badly injured and drifted in and out of consciousness.  The guess is, that the plane was washed out to sea with the tide.  It's quite possible that they went with the plane.  The radio transmissions were reported to the U.S. Coast Guard and were initially dismissed but that there were enough transmissions that they were believed (on second thought) to be the real deal.  The U.S. Navy, involved in the search, came within 100 miles of the atoll, but dismissed it believing that it was too far out of their search window, based on fuel consumption of the plane and general heading they were supposed to be taking.

  7. no one knows. every few years, someone thinks they do, but they can't prove their theory.

  8. The most definitive explanation is offered in a best selling book "Amelia Earhart Survived" by Rollin C. Reineck.  Here's in an article from that book:

    Good luck!

  9. The TRUTH:

    No One Really Knows.

She was lost over the Pacific.

    There are 100 theories.
