Question:

What really happens if you ignore/forget to respond to your jury duty paper?

One year ago I moved and one month prior to moving I was called in for Jury duty... I totally forgot about it and I don't have it anymore, we were moving and busy.

I read some old answers and still don't really know. Does anyone out there know? Has it happened to you?

Thanks.

  1. usually a bench warrant for contempt of court and then they quit looking for you.  Someday you will renew your DL, apply for something or get pulled over then you will be cuffed and placed in a holding cell until you pay a fine determined by the court.

  2. Nothing will happen to you. "NOTHING" The reason being they have no way to prove you got the thing in the mail. The only way they know is when you call the phone number on the notice.

  3. So far, I haven't been called on doing this.  I was worried that a traffic stop would pull up a warrant, but it didn't.  Since you were not going to be in the same county (right?) and couldn't have gone anyway, I don't think you've much to worry about even if you get called on it.

    Sleep well.

  4. You are under a legal obligation to answer it.  You can be summonsed to court and made to reply under threat of being held in contempt of court.  If they were going to pursue this, chances are they would already have done so.

  5. You may be sent to jail or they may summon you to the court be on trial for why you skipped.

  6. Technically, they can issue a warrant for your arrest.  Your best best is to call the courthouse and explain what happened.

  7. As I just answered "brandy g" in a similar question, "ever heard of a guillotine??  God Bless you.
