I live in a part of asia where technology is sooo slow! Due to the introduction of the internet, i purchase a pentium II pc, though it is old but for beginners like me, its a good start.

I do not know the technicalities of pc, but i know how to browse the internet and to the help of the support of my ISP.

When i purchased the 2nd hand pc, i do have the plan to purchase a better new in the near future, i found out that one of the programs in my pc is WinRAR. Is it essential to my pc? Though i am into vidostreaming and checking mails, but i am not storing anything in my pc.

Tech guys, please help me.

  1. Winrar is simply one of many file compression tools available. It allows you to create and open .rar files. Its not essential to your PC, though it is highly useful if you download compressed files (.zip, .rar, etc...). If you don't need the space it won't hurt anything if you leave it on your computer. It also won't hurt anything if you remove it.

  2. WinRAR is, like WinZIP, a compression algoritm. You need it in order to open *.RAR files.

I think it is an essential piece of hardware

  3. YES it really is win rar helps u open .rar files wich windows cant do so sometimes youll come upon rar files and youlll have nothing to open them with so you should keep winrar if u download alot

  4. WinRAR is used to compress and uncompress files. Although it's not required, it does come in handy, especially when downloading files off the internet which often come compressed (i.e., you would need a program to uncompress them).

  5. WinRar's purpose is to compress files. It may become handy if you ran out of space in your hard drive and always do office work. But consider that WinRar is not free(but even the 40 day period is done you can still use it so it is really free so don't buy a license unless you need other features WinRar has to offer). But Winrar is really user friendly. You can make archives and extract. But if you want a free alternative you can try 7zip/peazip(not so user friendly but compresses better with 7z format),Izarc(more user friendly but slow),alzip, etc.

But for your question if it is essential to my pc?Answer is NO unless you download torrents, stuff that are compressed and in RAR,ZIP,7z etc.
