  1. Dont even think about getting a Nikon D40 as suggested by someone.

Its no better than a plastic toy.

People only bought them as they were cheap, and it was a 'Nikon'. Impressed ?  NOT.

There are other dslr's you can get that are far superior to that, and for the same price or less, and truthfully,  you will be better off getting a DSLR for night shots.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

  2. It's not the camera that takes great shots, it's the person using it. Any camera will take good shots in the right hands but even a Hasselblad will take rubbish if you don't know what you're doing. for £250 you could get any decent camera but if you want to excel then use one that has manual control instead of using auto & hoping for the best.

  3. Compacts are bad at shooting in low light, everything in their design is against them. Small sensor which means more noise especially in 'dark' shots. Small aperture lenses which don't let much light in. Lack of control, you basically have to accept what the camera says. All these mean rubbish night shots.

  4. Take a look at the Nikon D40 or D40x. As a Nikonite through and through I would highly recomend these. Im a pro photographer and I have the D40x for my assistant as a back-up. Don't go to Jessops though, you will pay through the nose. Take a look on Amazon for some great deals..or even Ebay. Good luck.

  5. One with a flash.

  6. Fujifilm Finepix F31fd.......look nowhere.

  7. I've got some great shots with average point and shoot cameras. The key ingredient is that I use a TRIPOD in night shots, and set the ISO to 100 or lower (i.e. less than 100).
