What reasons does the government have to stop the funding the arts?

I need to know the reasons the government has for stopping the funding being given to the arts. Any help will be useful, thankyou.

  2. Some typical arguments made for stopping government arts funding:

    1.) It's expensive, and it would be a better use of the money to spend it on things like housing the homeless than on museums and orchestras.

    2.) It's detrimental to the artists. Artists who have to rely on government funding to get by end up compromising their art (so as not to offend the government and have their revenue stream dry up.)

    3.) Government art funding can lead to support for some works that are controversial and that everyone may not agree with (or funding for art that offends someone's religious or political viewpoint.)

    4.) The private sector is far better at funding art- they have more money to spend and can get it to the artists who need it faster with less red tape.

  3. They are spending their money on a bunch of other things that really isn't helping America (ie. foreign aid, war, etc.). The 10 year, 5 billion dollar arms deal with Israel could have better better spent in America.
