I'm a newbie agent/broker and would ultimately like to open my own agency as a broker. Want to tie strong relationship with great companies and stay away from the bad to offer the best to clients... how do I go about doing this?

  1. There are a few schools of thought on joining an agency. Depending on how new you are and how much cash you have and need each month, you may be better off finding an agency that will pay you a smaller commission, but help you generate prospects.

On the flip side of that scenario, some agencies require a non-compete for a year or longer. Also, some agencies will retain the customers you bring  in, and will allow you to go elsewhere, but have severe penalties for contacting previous customers.

My advice is, carefully review all options before you make a decision  on joining a company. I started in this area a year ago, and have built a pretty good agency. Check out my website and feel free to contact me if I can help or if you have any questions. There are MANY choices, some great, some not so great. I will be happy to share my experiences.
