Question:

What recourse do I have in this situation?

A woman came to my garage sale and bought some figural bottles - as an example - lighthouses. She gave me her email address and said at the time, if I ever came across ANYTHING with a lighthouse theme, let her know and she would buy it from me. After this I saw an oil painting in a curio shop and bought it, thinking she would like it. I took a photo of it and emailed it to her. She replied that it wasn't something in which she would be interested. That's what I get for trying to be helpful. I don't know if the price is too much for her budget or she just didn't like it - but she said ANYTHING when she asked me to look out for her. Now I'm out $20. What can I do?

  1. Nothing - you thought she'd like it because you knew he so well? She asked you to look out, not buy. You took that on yourself. I would suggest you find a nice place to hang the painting.

  2. So sell it to someone else into lighthouses, try craigslist.com

I would have taken a picture and asked the shop to hold it so you can see if your friend wanted it but I wouldn't have bought it outright. Everyone's taste is different.

  3. Only thing left to do would be to put it into another garage sale and sell it there.  She said to 'look' for her, not purchase for her.  Perhaps she just didn't like it.

  4. Nothing......it was simply a figure of speech.......it was nice of you to be helpful, but if you bought an actual lighthouse would you expect her to buy it from you?
