  3. Apples were brought to Normandy, France by the British way back in the 11th century.  The Normandy apple orchards are famous and "pommes au four" originated there as well as Normandy cider which is the best in the world.

    Later the apple orchards migrated to southern France and several similar recipes developed by region i.e. Provence.
