In the United Kingdom, ducal titles which have been given within the royal family include Duke of Cornwall, Duke of Lancaster, Duke of Clarence, Duke of York, Duke of Gloucester, Duke of Bedford, Duke of Cumberland, Duke of Cambridge, Duke of Rothesay, Duke of Albany, Duke of Ross, Duke of Edinburgh, Duke of Kent, Duke of Sussex, and Duke of Connaught and Strathearn.

  3. It depends on who the duke is.  If he is a royal duke (carrying the title "HRH" for "His Royal Highness"), he is a member of the royal family.  However, there are ducal families who are members of the royal family who are four or more generations from royal birth as a prince and do not carry the HRH title.

Meanwhile, some ducal families were never royal but ended up related to the royal family in other ways.

  4. It depends on the duke.  Not all dukes are members of the royal family, in which case they may not be related at all.

  6. The Sovereign of England usually makes their sons Dukes. Normally the eldest son is the Prince of Wales, then he gets the title as Duke of Cornwall. The second eldest usually becomes Duke of York. Today, Queen Elizabeth II's youngest son, Edward, was made an Earl (Earl of Wessex), and it is speculated that he will someday gain his father's title, Duke of Edinburgh.
