  1. noxious gasses

  2. What renewable energy sources and strategies do you think our society should focus on investing in?

!. Things that don't require power! For instance, Log homes are warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Aluminum roofs block heat, just try to cook cookies on aluminum foil, the bottoms will be raw while the tops are cooked or burned. Go to bed at night, get up in the morning to save power. Add skylights.

    2. Solar power. The sun is free! The solar panels aren't, but I'm sure they would be cheaper if they were mass produced.

    3. Wind mills. Wind is also free, be some areas don't get any wind at all considering that the average wind mill requires winds of 20-30mph. Georgia has an average wind speed of 3-5mph, not including stormy days. However how can skinny blades catch the wind? In low wind climates, people have made rectangular shaped blades.

  3. I would say that our society should definitely invest in wind power.  It might be a little bit ugly, but it does absolutely nothing to harm the environment and creates a lot of electricity.  Nuclear power is also a great choice compared to coal fired power plants.  Yes, nuclear reactors produce small amounts of highly toxic waste, but it can be stored safely.  Coal power plants, on the other hand spew copious amounts of carbon dioxide, not to mention numerous other toxins like mercury, into the air, which create global warming, reduced air quality, smog, and other bad things.

  4. cars are a big problem in north america.  i think people should be making the public transit more available so more people will be taking it.   The government  shouldn't spend so much money on highways and stuff.  because that just encourages more people to drive.  also, they should have lanes in streets for people to ride bicycles.  people want to ride bicycles its just too dangerous.  in china a lot of people ride bicycles.

  5. Wind or water energy. The most reliable energy sources.

  6. Solar Power because Canada does get alot of sun and we do get a load of wind up in the mountains, so we can also invest in wind power.

I think this question is a very smart one, because we need to become more "Green" to the world. I am the leader of the "Green Team" at my school. We have a composting club and a recycling club aswel as the garden team. My school as won the gold medal for the "Eco Award" in Halton. WE have also won the gold medal in all of Onatario. My school is Joshua Creek p.s. I am in the eight grade. We need to take action now.

  7. Water powered cars that would emit steam

  8. It shouldn't "focus" on anything.  Our society and economy are big enough that "all of the above" is the right answer for most questions.  We should all types of powerplants, but make them as clean, efficient, economical, and environmentally friendly as possible.

  9. Conservation is the cheapest and quickest way to reduce pollution or need for new power of any type.   All the biofuels in the country can't match what proper tire inflation would save us on the road.   To those who say we have to live in caves- go ahead, but I'd rather inflate my tires correctly, or maybe insulate my home correctly to save heating oil or use low flow shower heads.   The technology is already out there to make us much less polluting; it just has to be put into use for it to work.

  10. We need to stop using fossil fuels,,,,,,, because they are rapidly being depleted and because they are ruining the atmosphere with heavy carbon emmissions and creating global warming. The answer has got to lie in a natural power.......the biggest things like that is the sea and the wind.....tidal turbines and wind farms have been proved to work.......why do governments not see this......Bush will not take a stand because it would upset all the big oil companies whose only responsibility is to make more money for the shareholders and st*ff the rest of the world. Brown will do nothing to upset the oil flow to UK......he talks a good fight but when push comes to shove, he bottles it.  I think we should invest in a world government with me as president so I can start the ball rolling.
