A person I know has only a short time to live. He is on low income, has little resources, and no insurance. His only relatives are a mother in bad health and two half-sisters. He does own a cemetery space plus opening and closing. He doesn't plan to have a funeral, just immediate burial. Is there any way to resolve this situation regarding burial expenses?

  1. Wolfgang, consult an undertaker or a clergyman.

  2. Contact either a funeral home or social services and explain the situation to them.  Depending on your location, state and county,  social services may pay for a burial. In the county I reside, here in NY, social services will pay for the casket and a vault if one is required. Visitation and service on the same day.  All of this is providing the person has no assets. Afterwards, if assets are found the money must be paid back to the county. If your friend was in the service, there may be monies available there also. A funeral home or your local vets office can help you there,

  3. I know that Social Security has a program that gives a small amount.
